Samsung has introduced its flagship monitor, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57″, during Gamescom 2023. This impressive curved gaming monitor boasts a massive 57-inch ultra-wide panel, providing an experience akin to having two 4K displays side by side.
The Odyssey Neo G9 57″ (G95NC) features a VA-type LCD panel with a resolution of 7680 x 2160 and a 1000R curvature. This 32:9 aspect ratio display is equivalent to having two 16:9 3840 x 2160 panels placed side by side. The 57-inch size is a result of the ultra-wide aspect ratio and isn’t directly comparable to displays with different aspect ratios.
One of the most remarkable features is the monitor’s support for this massive resolution paired with an equally impressive 240Hz refresh rate. This translates to approximately four billion pixels being refreshed every second. To effectively drive this remarkable combination of resolution and refresh rate, the G95NC employs a combination of DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. Although Samsung doesn’t specify the precise bandwidth of these connectors, it’s not a critical detail since there currently isn’t a connector available that can natively accommodate such high data transfer rates (over 100Gbps) without the utilization of Display Stream Compression—something that the monitor does support.
Although the G95NC does not incorporate a more contemporary OLED panel, it does include Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology featuring mini-LED backlighting, an impressive 2392 local dimming zones, and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The panel boasts a minimum 1ms response time (GTG) and is coated with a matte finish.
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57″ is set to hit the US market in October, with a price tag of $2500.
