Right on queue, mother nature helps us emerge from winter with vibrant, nourishing strawberries. It’s hard to resist eating the entire pint out of hand. Which is why I usually buy a full pound of strawberries – enough to snack on and to make this delicious super C strawberry smoothie. It’s a naturally dairy-free drink that’s sweet and refreshing, but is basically made with just fruit!

Drink Your Vitamins with this Super C Strawberry Smoothie
I originally shared this recipe in the 1st edition of Go Dairy Free. But when I revamped my flagship book, and created a 2nd edition, I had to make room for some new recipes. So I decided to pull my Super C Strawberry Smoothie and share it here instead!
Why You’ll Love this Dairy-Free Strawberry Smoothie Recipe
- Delicious Taste: No one can resist the naturally sweet, slightly tart taste of this fruity smoothie!
- Cool & Refreshing: You’ll love this blend on a hot day or simply when cooling down from active pursuits.
- No Added Sugar: You can add sweetener – I won’t judge! But when your fruit is ripe, no added sugar is needed.
- Simple Ingredients: You won’t need any dairy alternatives. This smoothie is made with real foods.
- Naturally Allergy-Friendly: It’s free of top allergens, and I’ve even included a banana-free option below!
- Full of Nutrition: In addition to vitamin C, this strawberry smoothie recipe is high B vitamins, potassium, and fiber. And using orange juice has even been shown to improve bone health.
Recipe Tips
- Frozen vs Fresh Fruit: If you are using fresh strawberries, I recommend freezing the banana chunks in advance, as some frozen fruit gives this strawberry smoothie a creamier consistency.
- Blender Order: Always place the fresh fruit in your blender first (or last if using a personal blender cup), followed by the frozen. Putting the softer fruit closest to the blades helps the mixture blend more easily.
- Protein Pump: If you want a little more oomph in your strawberry smoothie, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of your favorite dairy-free protein powder. I would stick with a plain or original one to keep from overwhelming the fresh flavor. But a vanilla protein powder might also be tasting.
- Sweetener: I your fruit isn’t at its sweetest, you can add a pinch of pure stevia, or add a touch of sugar, agave, or honey, to taste. If using honey, slowly drizzle it in through the lid of your blender with the motor running. It doesn’t dissolve as easily in cold ingredients.
- Pops Option: You can freeze this smoothie blend into popsicle molds for healthy summer refreshment! Keep in mind that the pops will taste a little less sweet when frozen, so make sure the strawberry smoothie tastes a touch too sweet before freezing.
Banana-Free Option
If you don’t like bananas, are allergic, or just want a banana break, use mango instead! It provides a creamy based, naturally sweet flavor, and loads of nutrition – just like banana. It also complements orange juice and strawberries wonderfully. You can use fresh or frozen cubed mango. About 2/3 cup should do it. Try to select mango that’s made for smoothies or has low to no fibers, like Honey / Ataulfo or Kent.

loved this strawberry smoothie. how simple and healthy it is, perfect for breakfasts! thanks for sharing it.
We just made this with our freshly picked strawberry from the farm yesterday! We had to double the strawberry amount due only being able to taste banana. But will definitely be saving this for later. So hard finding smoothies that taste good without milk or yogurt.
Thanks so much!

Marvelous! And you can’t go wrong with extra strawberries 🙂
This smoothie looks so sweet! ? Additionally, I’m curious about the differences between using frozen fruits and fresh/ripe fruits. I normally use the ripe ones because I think the frozen will lose their sweetness to some extent.

Hmm, I haven’t noticed a big difference in the sweetness of smoothies with frozen fruit, as long as I’m using fruit that I froze myself (I do think store bought frozen tends to be less sweet). I freeze some of the fruit for a thicker smoothie, but you can certainly use all fresh fruit.
There is nothing better than fresh, simple ingredients! Can’t wait to give this a try!
I couldn’t agree with you more Emily.
This looks SO refreshing! I could use once of these this week, it’s so hot in NYC!
Or daily for that matter 🙂
I seriously need this in my life today!! I love how refreshing it is for summer. Love the orange juice addition!
Orange juice is so under-loved in smoothies!
