Prince Edward Island Dairy-Free Restaurant Guide (Recommendations by City)

    0
By Alisa Fleming on March 22, 2026 Canadian Restaurants, Dining Out, Suggested Restaurants

Last Update in March 2026! We’ve created this ever-growing guide to restaurants, bakeries, cafes, ice cream shops, and stores on Prince Edward Island that are friendly to dairy-free diners. It’s a collection based on research and reader recommendations (send yours!) that’s divided into restaurants & shops by city (first) and major chains found throughout the state (second). And we’ve started a section for specialty dairy-free foods produced in this state.

This post is updated continuously! We update whenever we're alerted to a new recommendation, change, or closure. But the listings are for informational purposes only and are merely ideas for consideration. Restaurant menus, staff, and policies do change, and potential allergen cross-contamination is a risk in any commercial kitchen. Only you can decide what is safe for your needs.

Dairy-Free Prince Edward Island: Best Restaurants & Shops

We’ve listed these recommendations alphabetically by city and then by the restaurant or shop name. For large chains with locations throughout the state, see the Major Restaurant & Grocery Chains section below. We have dedicated posts with dairy-free details for many of the big guys.

⭐️ = Restaurant is either dairy-free, has a dairy-free menu, has dairy-free labels on their menu(s), or lists top allergens with menu items. (At the time of our last review.)

    Charlottetown

    • Anne of Green Gables Chocolates – In store, they have vegan chocolate and candy options, which are labelled.
    • Beavertails – These artisanal Canadian pastries are made with whole wheat flour, hand-stretched, and fried. They can be ordered dairy-free and vegan on request. This shop is open seasonally.
    • Breadworks Bakery – They focus on organic rustic breads, and have a broad selection. At last check, all of their breads were dairy-free and egg-free, and most were vegan-friendly (a few contain honey).
    • Cedar’s Eatery – This Lebanese restaurant offers the usual vegan options on their menu – hoummous, tabouli, and falafel. But they offer additional dairy-free meat items.
    • Famous Peppers – This pizza spot offers their own house cashew cheese alternative, has a vegan pizza on the menu (plus some vegetarian ones that can be ordered vegan), and most of their pizzas can be custom ordered dairy free. They also make grilled sandwiches.
    • Farmacy+Fermentary – This kombuchary (is that a word?) is run by Heart Beet Organics farm. They have several of their house kombuchas on tap, sell many local foods, and they serve healthy bowls and sandwiches. Most of their menu is, or can be made dairy-free with Fauxmage cashew cheese.
    • Haru-K BBQ – Jessica recommends the Jeyuk or Bibimbap at this Korean restaurant. She said at last check, they used dairy-free butter for cooking.
    • Hojo’s Japanese Cuisine – Much of their diverse Japanese menu is naturally dairy-free, but they also offer creamy vegan ramen.
    • Hopyard – Their small plates menu includes a few unique vegan options, a few more that can be ordered dairy-free, and at last check, they had vegan, gluten-free chocolate cake, for dessert.
    • Kent Street Market – Their inventory focuses on local goods and foods, but they also have quite a big range of dairy alternatives and plant-based products from all around.
    • Lai Thai – According to this Thai restaurant, “The only menu item containing dairy products is our thai milk tea drink. Everything else in the menu is dairy-free.” They offer a full menu of noodles, soups, curries, and stir fries.
    • Leezen – This is a vegetarian shop that imports foods from Taiwan, but also carries some North American brands. They offer a big and unique selection of vegan items.
    • Leonhard’s Café and Restaurant – They’re friendly to special diet guests with a vegan sandwich and a bowl option right on the menu. Additional sandwiches are, or can be made, dairy-free. They also cater to gluten-free customers.
    • Lone Oak Brewpub ⭐️ –  This restaurant labels dairy-free and gluten-free options on their menu, including what can easily be made without dairy. These include hamburgers, lobster rolls, salad, and shareables.
    • MacroMom ⭐️ – The former owner of a vegan restaurant now offers catering, cooking classes, and other services surrounding whole foods. She is very experienced with dairy-free and gluten-free cooking.
    • Pita Pit – See our Dairy-Free Pita Pit Menu Guide for full details.
    • Pizza Pizza – See our Dairy-Free Pizza Pizza Menu Guide for full details.
    • Receiver Coffee Company – Their menu is filled with vegan options for breakfast and lunch, and a few additional items can be ordered without dairy. They also typically have some vegan baked goods and snacks, and milk beverages for your coffee drink. Menus and options vary slightly by location, and gluten-free options are also available. Jessica says her favorite order from this coffee shop is the chocolate peanut butter cup and soy London fog.
    • Slaymaker & Nichols Gastro House ⭐️ –  Thanks to Jessica for recommending this restaurant. They label their menus for top allergens, and do offer fish and other dishes without dairy for lunch and supper. Their brunch menu is more limited.
    • Soyaway & Goji’s – This is an ice cream and froyo shop with rotating options for dairy-free soft serve. They have creamy flavors and offer dairy-free Dole Whip flavors. Jessica recommends the vegan peanut butter soft serve with some strawberry sauce and oreo crumbles, when available.
    • Splendid Essence – The menu is vegetarian at this Chinese restaurant, and at last check, everything could be ordered dairy-free. They do use milk in some of their teas, but dairy-free options are available. Almost everything is vegan, but they do have eggs in some dishes – which can be omitted.
    • Stir It Up ⭐️ – This all-vegan kitchen serves a casual menu of burgers and other comfort foods, like “fish” and chips. They also offer grab and go meals. Look for them in the Founders Food Hall. They have gluten-free buns available.
    • Ta Ke Sushi – Jessica recommends this sushi restaurant. She says the spicy salmon salad, and Alaska maki, and sweet potato avocado roll are personal dairy-free favorites.
    • Tekila Mexican Bar & Grill – Jessica says their “Alambre with vegan cheese is soooo good! Probably my favorite meal on the island.”
    • The Brickhouse Kitchen & Bar ⭐️ – They label their menu with dairy-free and gluten-free options. The dairy-free selections are extensive, and include various entrees and small plates.
    • The Fifth Wave Espresso & Tea Bar – Jessica loves getting a dairy-free soy grizzly iced chai from this coffee shop. They have additional milk alternative options.
    • The Gahan House – Jessica recommended their tuna tartare, fish tacos, and sweet potato fries, but check, as their dairy-free options might vary. They are reportedly friendly to special diet needs.
    • The Kettle Black – Their food menu includes a daily vegan soup of the day, some Mediterranean eats, oatmeal, bagels, and toast. They sometimes have vegan treats, too. This is a coffee bar, and they do have oat milk and other milk alternatives.
    • The Root Cellar – This natural food store offers a good selection of frozen and pantry foods for special diets, including dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan.
    • The Water Prince Corner Shop – Their seafood chowder is dairy-free and gluten-free, and they let us know about half of their menu can be ordered without dairy. They don’t have a consistent bread supplier, so sometimes their breads are dairy-free, but sometimes they aren’t – so check. But they “do make efforts to accommodate as many dietary needs as possible. Also in dealing with fresh seafood we tend to keep any added ingredients minimal and so it is easier to modify when restrictions come up.”
    • Truckin’ Roll – They have two local food trucks, each rolling Thai-inspired ice cream to order. They have a dairy-free coconut cream base option (sweetened with maple syrup) and offer some delicious extras, like vegan brownies.

    Green Gables

    • Beavertails – These artisanal Canadian pastries are made with whole wheat flour, hand-stretched, and fried. They can be ordered dairy-free and vegan on request.

    • Famous Peppers – This pizza spot offers their own house cashew cheese alternative, has a vegan pizza on the menu (plus some vegetarian ones that can be ordered vegan), and most of their pizzas can be custom ordered dairy free.

    Mount Stewart

    • The Hive + Honeycomb – This is a painting cafe with a full menu. Their savory items are lacking for dairy-free options, but they have dairy-free cakes, tarts, milkshakes, and boozy shakes. They also have a full coffee bar with milk alternative options.

    New Glasgow

    • Beavertails – These artisanal Canadian pastries are made with whole wheat flour, hand-stretched, and fried. They can be ordered dairy-free and vegan on request. This shop is open seasonally.
    • Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca – They have a vegano pizza on the menu and offer dairy-free cheese alternative, so most of their pizzas can be ordered dairy free.
    • Samuel’s Coffee House – They offer a range of dairy-free milk alternatives and also have some light food options available.

    North Rustico Harbour

    • Blue Mussel Cafe – Their menu is clearly labeled for top allergens. Their dairy-free dishes aren’t plentiful, but they have a couple seafood appetizers, a salad, and vegan wellington – at last check. A few other dishes can be custom ordered without dairy.

    Saint Peters Bay

    • Black & White Cafe & Bakery – They offer dairy-free (custom order) and vegan sandwiches made with local Fauxmage cheese alternative. This Guide is for Informational Purposes Only

Menus, ingredients, kitchen procedures, management, and restaurants are subject to change at any time. Always read the menu and discuss your dietary needs with the staff before ordering. Make sure that they can accommodate your situation.

There is always a risk for potential cross-contamination of allergens in any commercial kitchen. If cross-contamination is an issue for you, always speak with the manager to ensure that your meal can be safely prepared. Listings here do not guarantee that a restaurant is safe enough for your individual needs. Only you can make that decision.
