This homemade hemp milk creamer is the ultimate solution for anyone looking to enjoy a healthy dairy-free diet without sacrificing their rich, morning ritual. It’s naturally nut-free, vegan, and infused with protein and healthy fats to turn your ordinary cup of coffee into a nutrient-dense latte. It’s also ready in an instant! All you need is 5 simple ingredients and 5 minutes, since there is no soaking required.

Maple Hemp Milk Creamer Recipe - dairy-free, healthy, homemade, fast, and easy. 5 ingredients, 5 minutes! No soaking.

Why You’ll Love This Hemp Milk Creamer Recipe

    • Ready in Minutes: No soaking – just blend, strain, and enjoy!
    • No Additives Needed: Unlike most store-bought creamers, this homemade version is free of oil, gums, lecithin, and carrageenan!
    • Ultra-Rich Texture: While my Hemp Milk Recipe is great for cereal and smoothies, this recipe is specifically formulated to be thick and creamy for coffee and tea.
    • It Froths: Unlike many homemade nut milks that fall flat, the healthy fats in hemp seeds create a rich, foam for lattes and cappuccinos.
    • Allergy-Friendly: It’s free of top allergens, which means no dairy, nuts, gluten, or soy.
    • Customizable Sweetness: Keep it neutral, make it a sweet treat, or go unsweetened and use it as a sub for dairy creamer, light cream, or half and half in recipes.

    Recipe FAQs

What Does Hemp Creamer Taste Like?

If you are new to hemp hearts (aka shelled hemp seeds), you might be wondering about the flavor profile of this dairy alternative. Hemp milk creamer has a distinct, nutty flavor that is often described as earthy—somewhere between a pine nut and a sunflower seed. The addition of maple syrup and vanilla extract are key. They round out the grassy notes of hemp, creating a balanced, slightly sweet, and cozy finish.

    Are Hemp Seeds Healthy?

Yes, those hemp seeds are packed with good stuff. Hemp hearts are rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids in the ideal ratio for heart health. Hemp is also one of the rare plant sources containing all nine essential amino acids. And a splash of this creamer adds magnesium, iron, and zinc to your daily cuppa joe.

    Does Hemp Milk Creamer Froth?

Do you love a foamy cappuccino? Because of the high healthy fat content in hemp seeds, this dairy-free creamer froths surprisingly well! For the best foam, warm the creamer slightly on the stove or in a milk frother before adding it to your coffee. The heat helps stabilize the fats, giving you a lovely micro-foam.

Can I Use a Different Sweetener?

You can, but I use maple syrup for a couple of reasons. The caramel notes in pure maple syrup balance the earthiness in hemp seeds perfectly. And unlike white sugar or honey, maple syrup blends instantly into cold or hot liquids without needing to be dissolved first.

    How Can I Prevent Curdling?

Fortunately, this hemp milk creamer doesn’t typically curdle in tea or lower acid coffee. But highly acidic coffee can make any natural creamer curdle. If you are having that issue, here are some quick solutions!

    1. Temper the Creamer: Gently warm the hemp creamer, let your coffee cool a bit before adding creamer, or add the creamer to your mug first and slowly pour in the coffee while stirring. This can help avoid curdling from heat shock.
    2. Buffer the Acidity: Add a tiny pinch (less than ⅛ teaspoon) of baking soda to the creamer recipe during the final blend. This will raise the pH of the creamer to combat the acidity of the coffee. Be careful as too much baking soda will negatively affect the taste.
    3. Adjust the Ratio: Your can reduce the hemp seeds to 2/3 cup. It will still be creamy, but less prone to separating than richer hemp milk creamer.
    4. Shake it Up: Since we aren’t using gums or emulsifiers, natural separation as it sits is normal. Always give it a good stir or mix before using or if your coffee has been resting for a while.

Something about this creamer just puts a smile on my face. It’s full-bodied, gently sweet, and a touch earthy. But somehow that very natural taste works with coffee and tea to create a comforting brew.

    Ingredients Equipment Method Nutrition Notes

    Ingredients

    • ¾ cup hulled hemp seeds (also called hemp hearts)
    • 1 ½ cups water
    • 1 ½ to 2 tablespoons maple syrup to taste
    • ¾ teaspoon pure vanilla flavoring or extract
    • Pinch sea salt

    Equipment

    • Nut Milk Bag

    Method

    1. Put the hemp seeds and water in your blender. Blend until relatively smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
    2. Strain the hemp cream through a nut milk bag or a sieve lined with a few layers of cheesecloth. Squeeze the pulp to extract all of the creamy goodness.
    3. Return the hemp creamer to your blender. Add the maple syrup, vanilla, and salt, and blend until creamy, about 1 minute.
    4. Store the creamer in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 1 week. Stir or shake before serving. It is free of additives, so it will separate a bit as it sits.

    Notes

Hemp Seed Pulp: There is only about 15 to 20% pulp remaining after you strain the hemp creamer. Hemp hearts are a little soft and blend easily. But any remaining pulp from your cheesecloth or nut milk bag can be tossed into oatmeal or baked recipes (such as granola or muffins).

    Flavor Variations:

    • Golden Milk Creamer: Add 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric and a pinch of black pepper for an anti-inflammatory boost.
    • Chocolate: Blend in 1 tablespoon cocoa powder for a mocha-style creamer.
    • Keto/Low Carb: Swap the maple syrup for a monk fruit sweetener or a few drops of liquid stevia to keep it sugar-free.

I made this yesterday and while I like the flavor, it is always separating in my coffee and I have to keep stirring it to keep it mixed. Is this normal?

I haven’t had that problem, but it depends on how long before it separates. Most natural, homemade creamers will separate with time, because they don’t have additives. If it’s immediately separating, it could be the acidity level of your coffee. Try warming the hemp creamer before adding it to your coffee.

Reading your description it seems very tasty❤ but I tried to make it (not with your recipe) and it tasted really strong…bad…..and the smell was horrible….it was such a surprise since I always eat the seeds and they don’t taste strong at all!??? So, I would like to try again…but I’m scared it’s gonna be the same… ??? Does your milk smell…really strong? ? I mean, it was really difficult to take the smell out of my vitamix ???

Hi Emanuela, yes, hemp seeds are very strong! That is why I made the recipe with additional ingredients – they help to soften the flavor. Please see all of the notes I included in the post – it shares tasting notes, tips, etc.

I definitely prefer it with a touch of sweetener, since it is a little grassy, but it really is addictive and worth trying Sina!

Honestly I have never heard of hemp milk. But this sound a little sweet with the touch of maple syrup. May I ask, aside from consuming alone, what would you use this with (ie Cereal or use it IN something you’re baking).

Hi Kaitie, yes, we enjoy it with oatmeal, granola, and it works well in place of milk in baking – in fact, it’s great for recipes due to the protein and healthy fats, they lend structure and tenderness.

Really?! I guess hemp creamer had only a small surge of popularity a few years ago. I think it really is because it tastes far better when made fresh.

I’ve never liked the store-bought hemp milk or hemp creamer, but I love hemp seeds and i love what they can do for smoothies so I think homemade is the way to go! The maple + vanilla additions just make we want to drink it straight 🙂

You must try it Natalie! I find that the vanilla actually counters some of the grassiness while the maple is a very complimentary sweetener.
