Starbucks Dairy-Free Menu Guide with Drinks, Food, and Custom Orders

    29
By Alisa Fleming on February 5, 2026 Dining Out, Suggested Restaurants, U.S. Restaurants

Updated March 2026! We began reporting on Starbucks decades ago, and have watched many dairy-free menu items come and go. Yes, some favorites have been lost. But I’m happy to report that the options at Starbucks have definitely expanded overall. You can now sub dairy-free milk at no extra charge, choose from a range of nondairy “sweet cream” options, order a selection of drink flavors and styles, and even pick up a pastry. We have the full details on how to order dairy-free at Starbucks in this guide. Read it through or jump ahead to sections with these links:

    What’s New at Starbucks

As 2026 heads to spring, Starbucks still hasn’t followed through on their prior “plant-based” promise. They did throw us one fun dairy-free drink in the new year – the Cannon Ball Refresher. It’s a pretty pink blend with bits of dragon fruit and strawberry. But they went all in on dairy with a full line of protein drinks and indulgent seasonal beverages. A few of their Matcha drinks can be made dairy-free, for a price. We have summarized how to order the seasonal Iced Ube Coconut Macchiato, Toasted Coconut Cream Cold Brew, and various Matcha Lattes (including Lavender) without milk. Sorry, the Dubai drinks lose their essence without dairy. As for the new eats, they are also rich in dairy. But there are still some tasty choices in our Starbucks Food Guide below.

Starbucks Dairy-Free Menu Guide with Food, Drinks, and Vegan Options. Includes Allergen Information.

How to Order Dairy Free Starbucks Drinks

We have all the details on the dairy free Starbucks beverages, including hot, cold, blended, and pre-packaged. But first, here are some important notes for understanding and using this guide.

Allergen Concerns: Review and understand the allergen information. Always relay your dietary needs to the staff, and confirm that your order is dairy free as needed. Ingredients are subject to change at any time, and different locations can have different levels of allergen safety. This is just a helpful guide for informational purposes only and cannot predict how your order will be handled.

Non-Dairy Milk: Always specify your dairy-free milk of choice when ordering any drink. Starbucks now offers almondmilk, coconutmilk, oatmilk, and soymilk at most locations at no extra charge in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. Some franchise locations might still charge for the swap.

Non-Dairy Sweet Cream: If you are ordering nondairy sweet cream (contains oat and soy) as a substitute for dairy sweet cream in a drink, there will usually be an upcharge. Most Starbucks locations consider this an add-on and not a swap.

Whipped Cream: Vegan Whipped Topping is available in the U.K. It has been test marketed in North America, but isn’t currently available in the U.S. or Canada.

Add-Ons: We created this guide to dairy-free syrups & sauces which is helpful at many coffee houses, but Starbucks uses their own in-house sauces and syrups. See the Starbucks Sauces, Syrups, and Toppings Guide below if you want to custom order drinks.

Vegan: All of the following are vegan-friendly, unless otherwise noted.

Hot Coffee – Lattes (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Caffè Latte
    • Cinnamon Dolce Latte (order no whip, no cinnamon dolce topping)
    • Lavender Latte
    • Oat Latte (Canada only)
    • Starbucks Blonde Vanilla Latte
    • Toasted Coconut Latte
    • Ube Coconut Latte

Heads Up! The Pistachio and Protein Lattes cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor or a key ingredient.

Hot Coffee – Other Coffee Drinks (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Brown Sugar Oat Americano (Canada only)
    • Caffè Americano
    • Caffè Misto
    • Cappuccino
    • Cortado
    • Cortado – Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado
    • Espresso Macchiato
    • Flat White
    • Mocha – Caffè Mocha (order no whip)

Heads Up! The Caramel Macchiato and White Chocolate Mocha cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor or a key ingredient. Starbucks Breve drinks are made with half and half. If you sub with non-dairy milk it just becomes a Latte. All plain coffee / espresso drinks are just coffee or espresso (naturally non-dairy), unless you add ingredients.

Cold Coffee – Lattes (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Iced Caffè Latte
    • Iced Cinnamon Dolce Latte (order no whip, no cinnamon dolce topping)
    • Iced Lavender Latte
    • Iced Oat Latte (Canada only)
    • Iced Starbucks Blonde Vanilla Latte
    • Iced Toasted Coconut Latte

Heads Up! The The Pistachio and Protein Lattes cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor or a key ingredient. Substituting non-dairy vanilla sweet cream might incur additional charges.

Cold Coffee – Cold Brew (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Cold Brew with Nondairy Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Foam
    • Nondairy Chocolate Cream Cold Brew
    • Nondairy Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew
    • Nondairy Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew
    • Toasted Coconut Cream Cold Brew (sub non-dairy coconut cream cold foam)
    • Vanilla Sweet Cream Nitro Cold Brew (sub non-dairy vanilla sweet cream)

Heads Up! The Pistachio and Protein drinks cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor or a key ingredient. Substituting non-dairy vanilla sweet cream might incur additional charges. The Nondairy Sweet Cream and Cold Foam is made with a base of Oatmilk and Soymilk, so none of these drinks can be made soy-free.

Cold Coffee – Other Drinks (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Iced Flat White
    • Macchiato – Iced Ube Coconut (sub nondairy Ube cream cold foam)
    • Mocha – Iced Peppermint Mocha (order no whip, no chocolate curls)
    • Shaken Espresso – Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
    • Shaken Espresso – Iced Hazelnut Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
    • Shaken Espresso – Iced Shaken Espresso

Heads Up! The Iced Caramel Macchiato and Iced White Chocolate Mocha cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor or a key ingredient. All plain iced or cold brew coffee / espresso drinks are just coffee or espresso (naturally non-dairy), unless you add ingredients.

    Protein Beverages

Heads Up! Unfortunately, none of the Protein Lattes or Cold Foam drinks can be ordered without dairy. Starbucks uses a whey (dairy) protein, and they do not offer a plant-based or dairy-free protein option at this time.

Frappuccino Blended Beverages (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Coffee – Caramel Frappuccino (order no caramel sauce, no whip)
    • Coffee – Coffee Frappuccino
    • Crème – Lavender Crème Frappuccino (order no whip)
    • Coffee – Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino (order no Frappuccino chips, no whip)
    • Coffee – Mocha Frappuccino (order no whip)
    • Crème – Matcha Crème Frappuccino (order no whip)
    • Crème – Strawberry Crème Frappuccino (order no whip)
    • Crème – Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino Blended Crème

Heads Up! The Caramel Ribbon Crunch and Pistachio Frappuccinos cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor. The regular Caramel Frappuccino comes with both caramel sauce and caramel syrup. The caramel syrup is made without milk. Several years ago, Starbucks reformulated their frappuccino syrup formula to make it suitable for dairy-free and vegan visitors.

Hot Tea Drinks (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Chai Latte (not vegan)
    • London Fog Latte
    • Matcha Latte

Heads Up! The Protein Matcha and Sugar-Free Vanilla Protein Matcha cannot be ordered dairy-free since the protein used is dairy whey. Starbucks does not offer a plant-based or dairy-free protein powder at this time. All plain teas are just tea (naturally non-dairy), unless you add ingredients. Starbucks Chai Tea Concentrate contains honey, which is why it isn’t vegan.

Cold Tea Drinks (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Iced Banana Bread Matcha (no cold foam; add non-dairy cold foam + dried banana)
    • Iced Chai Latte (not vegan)
    • Iced Cherry Chain Latte (sub nondairy cherry cream cold foam) (not vegan; Canada only)
    • Iced Double Berry Matcha (sub non-dairy raspberry cream cold foam)
    • Iced Lavender Matcha (sub non-dairy lavender cream cold foam)
    • Iced London Fog Latte
    • Iced Matcha Latte
    • Matcha Crème Frappuccino Blended Beverage (order no whip)

Heads Up! The Iced Protein Matcha drinks cannot be ordered dairy-free since the protein used is dairy whey. Starbucks does not offer a plant-based or dairy-free protein powder at this time. All plain teas and tea lemonades are just tea and/or lemonade (naturally non-dairy), unless you add ingredients. Starbucks Chai Tea Concentrate contains honey, which is why it isn’t vegan. The Pistachio drinks cannot be ordered dairy-free. Substituting non-dairy cream cold foam might incur additional charges, which is why we list to “add” non-dairy cold foam.

    Refreshers & Lemonades

    • Blended Strawberry Lemonade
    • Cannon Ball Drink
    • Coconutmilk Refresher – Dragon Drink
    • Coconutmilk Refresher – Pink Drink
    • Lemonade
    • Mango Dragonfruit Lemonade Refresher
    • Mango Dragonfruit Refresher
    • Strawberry Açaí Lemonade Refresher
    • Strawberry Açaí Refresher

Hot Chocolate & Steamed “Milk” (ordered with Non-Dairy Milk)

    • Hot Chocolate (order no whip)
    • Steamed Milk
    • Vanilla Crème

Heads Up! The Peppermint White Hot Chocolate, Caramel Brulée Crème, and Pumpkin Spice Crème cannot be ordered dairy-free without compromising the core flavor. The Mocha Sauce in Starbucks’ Hot Chocolate is really a dairy-free chocolate sauce – it doesn’t contain coffee or espresso.

Starbucks Dairy-Free Sauces, Syrups & Toppings

You can craft your own dairy-free beverage with the following. Some are seasonal, so your local shop will not have all of the following at any given time. But they will have many of these!

Does Starbucks Offer Vegan Whipped Cream?

As mentioned above, they do currently have Vegan Whipped Cream at Starbucks locations in the U.K. They have test marketed a lentil-based, dairy-free whipped cream in the U.S., but thus far, it hasn’t taken hold.

    Dairy Free Starbucks Food Menu

Though the selection isn’t huge, Starbucks does offer some dairy-free food options at most of their stores. They include all of the bakery, breakfast, and lunch items listed below. They are all vegan, unless otherwise noted.

    Condiments

    • Avocado Spread

    Bakery Items

    • Bagel, Everything
    • Bagel, Plain
    • Bagel, Sprouted Grain (Canada only)
    • Banana Walnut & Pecan Loaf (not vegan)
    • Pumpkin & Pepita Loaf (not vegan)

Make Your Own! Most Starbucks’ baked goodies contain loads of dairy, but we’ve created copycat recipes for several of them. Enjoy our easy recipes for Dairy-Free Ice Lemon Loaf, Dairy-Free Cinnamon Coffee Cake, Dairy-Free Blueberry Scones, and Dairy-Free Double Chocolate Brownies.

    Breakfast Items

    • Rolled & Steel Cut Oatmeal
    • Seasonal Fruit Blend

Heads Up: The only thing on the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich that is dairy-free is the patty. A vegan plant-based breakfast sandwich was test marketed, but it hasn’t been added to their permanent menu. All of their egg patties and several of their breads do contain milk. The Steel Cut Oatmeal should be prepared with water, not milk.

    Lunch (select locations)

    • Spicy Falafel Pocket

Heads Up! Many components on Starbucks sandwiches, beyond the cheese, contain milk. If you are okay with potential cross contamination, the Eggs & Cheddar Protein Box is made without milk if you remove the cheese.

    Dairy-Free Starbucks at Home

The Starbucks at Home line now includes a great range of products that you can buy at the store. All of these are sold at grocers, and are not available at Starbucks coffee shops.

    • Starbucks Non-Dairy Creamers – These popular creamers are available in many well-known flavors, including Hazelnut Latte, Pumpkin Spice Latte, Caramel Macchiato, Sugar Cookie, Lavender Latte, Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso, Horchata Shaken Espresso, and Maple Pecan Latte. Be careful not to confuse them with Starbucks dairy creamers, as the packages and flavors do look similar.
    • Coconutmilk Refreshers – Starbucks sells their Pink Drink (strawberry acai) and Paradise Drink (pineapple passionfruit) in large sinigle-serve bottles.
    • Oatmilk Cold Brew – Their multi-serve cold brew is available in one lightly creamy, dairy-free variety: Dark Chocolate.
    • Oatmilk Frappuccinos – Starbucks dairy-free, single serve drinks have come and gone from the market with some regularity. Their current offerings are these creamy oatmilk blends in Caramel Cookie Waffle and Dark Chocolate Brownie.

    Is Starbucks Allergy-Friendly?

I’ve heard many rumors about Starbucks changing their policies for handling allergens. As it turns out, they haven’t changed their processes, but they are trying to be more transparent. As before, pitchers should be rinsed and fresh pitchers can be requested, but the presence of milk is still abundant at each shop. Those with a severe milk allergy should use caution when ordering drinks and food, and might want to stick to safe pre-packaged and pre-bottled options. Or go basic with simple coffee or tea. You can also order flavor shots and milk alternatives, but request to stir yourself rather than having your drink shaken or steamed.

Here is their new allergen alert:

Starbucks reviews its practices on an ongoing basis to look for better ways to work and provide transparency to our customers and partners (employees). Starting July 10 [2018], Starbucks removed dairy labels from steaming and blending pitchers. Because our beverages are made using shared equipment (steaming wands, blender pitcher, rinsers) the removal of the sticker is more transparent and realistic of how the pitchers are used. As a beverage standard, our baristas use a rinsed pitcher for each handcrafted beverage. If you have questions or concerns, please ask your barista to remake the drink using a fresh pitcher and please remember that this does not guarantee that the beverage will be allergen-free.

This Post is for Informational Purposes Only

Menus, ingredients, kitchen procedures, management, food sourcing, and restaurant protocols are subject to change at any time. Always read the menu and discuss your dietary needs with the staff before ordering. Make sure they can accommodate your situation. This post is for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as advice.

There is always a risk for potential cross-contamination of allergens in any commercial kitchen. If cross-contamination is an issue for you, always speak with the manager to ensure that your meal can be safely prepared. Listings here do not guarantee that a restaurant is safe enough for your individual needs. Only you can make that decision.

Each location of a chain restaurant has different management and staff, and some might have different owners. This means differences in processes, ingredients used, menu options, and food sourcing can occur. Always verify the safety of your order for your needs at your current location.

I was told by Barista in GA Starbucks that the peppermint mocha syrup contains dairy. Unfortunately, its my favorite and I can no longer have it. Any suggestions for alternatives?

    Response from Go Dairy Free

Hi Nicole, I’m not sure what that barista is referring to as Starbucks doesn’t use a peppermint mocha syrup. They have a mocha sauce, which is dairy-free, and a peppermint syrup, which is also dairy-free. Perhaps that location is premixing it with milk? I can’t say for sure. But I would talk to the manager at that location. Our information on how to order it is correct per Starbucks corporate.

Super helpful - do you know about their current holiday selections?

    November 9, 2025

I’m really just wanting to mention the Gingerbread Oat Chai Latte and Iced Gingerbread Oat Chai, because they look safe but I don’t see them on your list – but I *was* able to reference the fact the Pumpkin Spice Topping, the Gingerbread Syrup (in the latte), and the Non-Dairy Gingerbread Cold Foam (in the iced chai) were dairy-free from your post though, which is why I think they’re safe?

As someone who only recently learned I’m casein-intolerant (not just lactose), I really appreciate finding your site!!!

    Response from Go Dairy Free

Yes, these can be non-dairy if ordered with oat milk (or other dairy-free milk alternative), as long as you also sub non-dairy cold foam in the Iced Chai. They do have gingerbread non-dairy cold foam available, but you do have to pay extra (order without cold foam, then add non-dairy cold foam).

    Thanks for the updates!

    My Opinion

    November 11, 2023

Hello Dustin There is no dairy indicated in those drinks on the internet, and we were informed that the vanilla bean powder is dairy-free. I already had confirmation from Starbucks on this. In reality, it was introduced as a vegan and dairy-free beverage. Could you please tell me where you found this information on powdered vanilla beans? Indeed, the macchiato made with almond milk contains dairy. Not on our list, that is.

    Cross Contamination Not worth it

    January 30, 2023

As other reviewers have said they don’t clean the carafes and pitchers used to make the drinks, so you’re going to get “dairied” regardless of what you do, even with the teas. I’m going to consume only the pre-bottled or canned drinks and Lee-packaged foods from now on.

    Response from Go Dairy Free

As detailed, the pitchers are used for steaming. You can get several iced drinks, made in the cup, with the milk alternative and syrups poured directly from the package. The coffee itself is also brewed without milk, and you can add just milk beverage and syrups without having it steamed or heated.

Such a shame Starbucks got rid of the macadamia cranberry vegan cookie. That was the best! Not too many dairy free, quick grab baked goods. Wish this is something they would work on this year.

      • Alisa Fleming on January 17, 2020 11:30 am

I know! I didn’t even find it myself before it disappeared. I think they didn’t have enough sales because they didn’t stock it in enough places! Fingers crossed for more options.

I work at a Starbucks in Canada and the risk is very high if you have a dairy allergy. The tongs for hot food that are used often have just been used on a panini with cheese and the pitchers are indeed just rinsed with water between drinks. Both are washed and sanitized well throughout the day and you can ask your barista to use a clean one if they are available in the back, straight out of the dishwasher, but this is not always available, especially when it’s busy.

    4. Breanne M. on January 15, 2020 6:39 pm

I work at Starbucks and many Canadian locations have lactose free milk (which is just regular milk with the lactase enzyme added to help those who suffer from lactose intolerance digest it with ease) and unfortunately though, we do not carry lactose free cream in any form.

    5. Ken on January 8, 2020 6:45 am

Due to cross contamination I just order a coffee and get it from the cashiers. I don’t think I would survive any of their specialty drinks or food based on observations of their food/beverage handling. Bagged or bottled with ingredients listed only for me.

      • Alisa Fleming on January 8, 2020 7:48 am

Yes, as noted in the post above on their allergen processes, there is risk. I also just order tea. Most dairy-free consumers order iced versions made in cup with the milk beverages and syrups listed to avoid cross-contamination as much as possible. They do have several drinks that they can make in cup, without using any shared equipment or tools.

But is starbucks going to continue to charge more for those wanting non dairy milk?
I feel as if I am being penalized?

          • Alisa Fleming on January 31, 2020 1:08 pm

I really can’t say. It would be nice, but it will mostly likely come down to profitability. The surcharge is usually cost based. The quantities of milk that they buy are much, much higher than each type of non-dairy milk that they purchase. So it’s likely that the dairy milk costs them significantly less.

Check the mocha sauce now. I always get a large soya hot chocolate but was told the other day that the new mocha sauce/syrup now contains dairy.

      • Alisa Fleming on September 27, 2019 6:30 am

I literally just updated this post about 2 weeks ago, and I just now double checked, and according to Starbucks, my information is accurate. The mocha sauce is still dairy free. And they also just updated their website in the past couple of weeks. I’m not sure why the barista gave you that information. You might want to ask to see the bottle, since the information they are providing is that it is clearly dairy free by ingredients.

    7. Dustin R Gallegly on December 25, 2018 8:31 pm

Small Correction: The Vanilla Bean Coconutmilk Latte (Iced or Hot) DOES contain dairy. The Vanillia Bean Powder is NOT dairy-free. As does the Caramel topping to the Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato.
Keep up the good work, though!

      • Alisa Fleming on December 30, 2018 1:11 pm

Hi Dustin, we were told the vanilla bean powder is dairy-free, and no dairy is listed in those drinks online. I confirmed this previously with Starbucks. It was actually released as a dairy-free and vegan drink. Can you tell me where you got this information about the vanilla bean powder? Here is one of the ingredient lists with the vanilla bean powder -> https://www.starbucks.com/menu/drinks/espresso/vanilla-bean-coconutmilk-latte?foodZone=9999
And yes, the almond milk macchiato is not dairy-free. It isn’t on our list.

Thanks so much for sharing this info and keeping it updated. After reading about the most recent changes I’ve decided not to go to Starbucks anymore. I have a dairy allergy, and the removal of the labels while understandable, does not fill me with confidence. And it costs too much for that, especially since the incredibly limited dairy free options are extra.

      • Alisa Fleming on November 2, 2018 8:32 am

Completely understandable and happy I can help! I’m no longer a Starbucks visitor myself, so I completely understand. I will say that they are in a few tourist parks and can be helpful for pre-packaged snacks in a pinch.

I had a dairy free breakfast sandwich there that wasn’t on the menu and it was SO GOOD That i didn’t miss the cheese one bit! I think it was called SMOKED SHOULDER BREAKFAST SANDWICH.

      • Alisa Fleming on September 20, 2018 9:33 am

That’s awesome! I wonder if they make it dairy-free locally for that store? They have a smoked shoulder sandwich listed online, but it contains dairy. I have heard that many items are made regionally or locally though.

    10. Stephanie on July 12, 2018 5:36 pm

Pumpkin spice lattes have dairy because they use sauce also for Christmas White Chocolate Peppermint Mochas have dairy. I was told any of the sauces have dairy in them, funny they don’t tell you this and I’m sure plants of people don’t know & they are drinking it.

The cinnamon almond milk Macciato is not dairy free. The Caramel sauce and topping have dairy.

      • Dustin R Gallegly on December 25, 2018 8:25 pm

The Cinnamon Dolce topping does not have dairy, though the Caramel Sauce does.

Thanks for keeping it up to date! Love this site.

Does Starbucks also have Gluten-free options like their drinks and foods (due to me being Gluten-free and Dairy-Free) because I find it hard when I go out for lunch and dinner with my family or out with friends to find a place that caters for both requirements or else I just don’t bother going to the place?

      • Alisa Fleming on September 16, 2016 2:17 pm

Erika, they might have ones locally (some stores carry local baked goods, too), but I don’t know of gluten-free options. They have a few packaged items, like bars, that are DF/GF, but I wouldn’t rely on them for full meals.

I am the same, it’s so difficult x

        • Karin on September 21, 2018 7:51 pm

Just got off 2 different cruise line ships. Being both dairy free and gluten free posed challenges for them and me! Holland America always had almond milk available and a variety of bread, bagels, muffins. Princess did not, it was difficult, they think dairy free and lactose free are one in the same. The head chef in the dining room was helpful in making sure I did not receive anything with dairy in it. At the buffet, no desserts at all were dairy free, so I ate a lot of salads and no sweets.

Hi there do you you know if Starbucks have a lactos free whipped cream
      Miss S.

      • Alisa Fleming on September 12, 2016 1:21 pm

They don’t offer dairy-free whipped cream, but I couldn’t tell you on lactose-free. I read that Peet’s has dairy-free whip though.

I am so excited that Starbucks offer dairy-freel. My daughter took me there 3 days ago and said trust me Mom, you can drink this. She ordered me a mocha frappuccino w/ soy milk and I was in heaven! Mind you, I haven’t had anything like this in 40 years, when I found out i was lactose intolerant. Awesome! Now I called the Starbucks company today to find out if I can order this product (with soy) but to no avail. Disappointed for sure, so I’m gonna try to make my own, any suggestions!
