I never leave home without a stash of dairy-free snack bars. A good bar is more than a travel must, it’s a daily essential. I’ve spent years taste-testing my way through nearly every dairy-free brand on the market. To save you the guesswork (and the bad-bar-buyer’s remorse), I’ve rounded up our top 10 favorites. This list has something for every craving and budget—from low-sugar energizers to healthier treats that still feel like a splurge.

Yes, good old Larabars. I love that they are made with clean, simple, whole food ingredients (dried fruit and nuts), and can be found so easily in nearly any food store. These naturally sweet and chewy bars seem to satisfy at any time, especially since they come in both regular size and mini bars. If you want to know which flavors to try next, see our Best Larabar Flavors post.

Made Good Granola Bars
Sarah said her budget-oriented family of six loves this allergy-friendly brand! The only reason we don’t buy them regularly is they’re a little small and a little sweet for our tastes. But they are definitely kid-friendly, and great for a small snack.

Nature’s Bakery Fig Bars
These are more of a healthy dessert than an energy bar, but that makes them even more valuable. We occasionally enjoy them as a snack, but more often when a sweet tooth strikes. Either way, they are scrumptious and have just enough nourishment from whole grains and fruit to keep us from running out of steam. They come in a variety of flavors, two per package, and are a bit larger than Fig Newtons. They are remarkably easy to find in a wide range of stores, and have a surprisingly friendly price tag.
- Best For: Dessert Cravings
- Basic Nutrition: 200 calories, 5g fat, 75mg sodium, 37g carbs, 3g fiber, 19g sugar (14g added), 3g protein

Nature Valley Crunchy Bars
Remember those crunchy, thin granola bars stacked in two packs? Yes, they are still around. I’d nearly forgotten about them, until they started popping up in convenience stores. We grabbed them a few times on the road, since they were often the only dairy-free option. But now we buy them on sale to pack along (they’re available in mainstream grocers). I often slather a bar with peanut butter for a quick breakfast. But be warned – these bars can be crumbly!
- Best For: All Around Convenience
- Basic Nutrition: 190 calories, 7g fat, 140mg sodium, 29g carbs, 2g fiber, 11g sugar (11g added), 3g protein

- Vegan: Some (select flavors contain honey)

Paleo Bars (Universal Bakery)
I discovered these when we tagged along on a Costco trip with my dad, and we were immediately hooked. They’re not sold in regular stores, but are a seriously good price at Costco. These dairy-free snack bars are made with wholesome ingredients and have a chewy granola bar meets energy bar vibe.
- Best For: Value
- Basic Nutrition: 230 calories, 19g fat, 45mg sodium, 14g carbs, 4g fiber, 9g sugar (8g added), 6g protein

That’s It Bars
Dried fruit bars have been around for decades, but That’s It has taken them to the next level. They have classic fruit blend bars, fruit + probiotics bars, and energy bars spiked with coffee. I’m not a coffee fan, so I stick with the first two options, which are tasty and energizing in their own right!
- Best For: Pure Fruit
- Basic Nutrition: 100 calories, 0g fat, 30mg sodium, 22g carbs, 4g fiber, 17g sugar (0g added), 1g protein

Honorable Mention
- Belvita Breakfast Biscuits – These are more of a bar-cookie hybrid, but they are pretty darn tasty for breakfast with a slather of peanut butter and a mug of tea (or coffee).
- Blake’s Bars – We haven’t tried this brand yet, but have heard good things about their allergy-friendly chewy bars.
- Kind Breakfast Bars – Unlike their nut bars, these are made with whole grains, like oats. They aren’t my favorite oat-style bars, but are pretty tasty and often on sale by the box.
- Munk Pack Bars – They offer Nut & Seed and Chewy options in their snack bar line up. I haven’t tried this brand, but have heard it’s the best low sugar, low carb brand.
