Kosher Certifications of Pillsbury Products
Pillsbury baking products are Certified Kosher. Most of the frostings are Kosher Pareve. But most of the mixes are all Kosher Dairy, since the dairy-free mixes are made in the same facility as the ones containing dairy. The main issue I have with food labeling is the term “natural and artificial flavors.” Unless these flavors contain a major allergen, they can technically be ANYTHING. Has anyone authoring or reading this contacted Grands! Biscuits, for example, about the natural and artifical flavors being vegan? I also often wonder about the mono- and diglycerides (as another commenter has mentioned) and the sugar source being from a place that uses bones vs not. Food labeling rules have got to change!… (after some research)… https://www.pillsbury.com/products/biscuits/grands-refrigerated-biscuits/flaky-layers-original has the following in the comments: This product does contain animal based ingredients and is not vegan friendly. However it is vegetarian friendly. We hope this helps!

Hi Alisa, it has listed in the Pillsbury Crescents “Mono & Diglycerides” is that a derivative from a cow/beef?
It isn’t a milk/dairy derivative, but I couldn’t tell you if they are derived from other parts of a cow. They are often plant-based, but you would need to speak with a representative for Pillsbury to find out specific ingredient sources. Since the majority of their products are kosher certified, I would assume it is a plant-based ingredient, but you would need to check with them to confirm.
It could be. Also, in Grands! Southern Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits, the natural and artificial flavor could be as well.
Hi Alisa- I’m confused. All the canned biscuits you’ve listed above either say they ‘do contain milk’ or they ‘may contain milk’. Has Pillsbury recently changed their ingredients and it’s just not showing the new labels online?
Hi Suzanne, many of their biscuit varieties are made with milk ingredients, but the ones listed above are dairy-free by ingredients. None of them have a “contains milk” statement. Make sure you are looking at those varieties specifically. And yes, several (but not all!) “buttermilk” options are made without any buttermilk!
