Ben & Jerry’s Oatmilk Ice Cream keeps Rolling Out in More Flavors

By Alisa Fleming on March 26, 2025 Dairy-Free Ice Cream Reviews, News, Product Reviews

Updated March 2025! In late 2023, Ben & Jerry’s began rolling out an all new base recipe for their non-dairy line. The original formulas use almond milk or sunflower butter, but those nuts and seeds are gradually being replaced with oats. According to the company, fans can expect “more flavor, more creamy texture and more dessert euphoria” from the improved nut-free formula, but each variety will still contain the same chunks and swirls. Plus, they will continue rolling out brand new non-dairy flavors, like Chocolate Caramel Brownie!

Ben & Jerry’s Unveils New Oatmilk Recipe for Non-Dairy Flavors - we have the ingredients, nutrition, and answers to your FAQs! Yes, it's still vegan and dairy-free. Also now nut-free!

Ben & Jerry’s Oatmilk Ice Cream is their New Non-Dairy Standard

Ben & Jerry’s new formula roll out will be gradual. It started with their two most popular non-dairy flavors, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Fudge Brownie. But this year, they’ve got six more Oatmilk varieties hitting shelves. We have the ingredient and nutrition information for these updated pints below, followed by FAQs for the non-dairy pints.

    Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy FAQs

I Can’t Find My Favorite Flavor. Is it Discontinued?

We haven’t heard word of any non-dairy pint flavors discontinuing right now. But, you will see flavors disappear from the shelves as they make the formula transition. Most stores will have a gap between when they sell through the pints with the old formula and bring in the pints with the new formula.

Are all Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Flavors going to be made with Oatmilk?

Yes, they are reformulating all of the non-dairy flavors, but they aren’t switching every variety immediately. They were expecting to complete the transition by Spring of 2024, but we’re still seeing a migration happening in 2025.

Will the Non-Dairy Scoop Shop Flavors be Oat-Based, too?

The Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Scoop Shop flavors are also being reformulated! You can expect to see the oat-based recipes hitting your local shops soon. See our Ben & Jerry’s Dairy-Free Scoop Shop Guide for the latest.

Are the Oat Based Flavors Gluten Free?

It appears the oatmilk base is made with gluten-free oats, as select flavors (as noted) are certified gluten free. But some flavors have additions that contain wheat.

Will all of the Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Flavors be Nut-Free?

We can’t say for sure, but it’s doubtful. Some of the flavors use nuts in the chunks. Those will likely remain the same. But most of the flavors will be made without nuts.

    Are Ben & Jerry’s Non-Dairy Flavors Dairy-Free?

Yes, their entire non-dairy line is dairy-free by ingredients. All of the flavors are vegan-friendly, too.

    August 7, 2025

I used to buy one pint of the Cookies & Milk every month (I wanted to buy one a week but I was being responsible). Adored it. The switch from the sunflower to oat milk was revolting. It’s not nearly as creamy as it used to be. The oat milk has a very noticeable after taste, so if it’s chocolate or mint it’s probably fine, but anything with a closer to vanilla base it’s all you can taste. The formula isn’t as rich of a mouth feel either. That’s always what’s missing for me.

So I guess if you are having a chocolate based flavor & mouth feel isn’t a big deal for you? You’ll probably find this to be 3 stars & if you already like oat milk ice cream maybe 5. If mouth feel matters a lot or you’re having a vanilla based one? Get a different ice cream, although I’m not sure what to suggest since everyone is opting for oat milk.

    Disgusting 🙁

    April 8, 2024

I’m sorry but I really wish they would keep half the non-dairy ice creams almond milk-based, which has the most neutral taste and texture more akin to soft serve ice cream to me. The “new recipe” oat milk based is absolutely abhorrent—just like their original recipe, and all oat milk based ice creams I’ve tried for that matter. I know it’s “creamier” or whatever to most people, but I find it just stickier and the flavor is a turn off (like chalky cardboard and chemicals). For Gods sake give people an option. Now I have to find another brand.
