Chocoholics will love these rich, dairy-free banana chocolate truffles. They’re dense, delicious, and infused with fresh banana for flavor and nutrition. These plant-based truffles are a whole food treat, but you can dial the indulgence up or down with your choice of dairy-free chocolate.

Dairy-Free Banana Chocolate Truffles with Simple Ingredients
This recipe was shared with us by Dole, from their “Ultimate Banana Wedding Reception Menu.” It was developed in honor of their 125th Banana-versary, the year-long celebration of Dole’s 125 years in the banana business. I’ve added some options to their dairy-free banana chocolate truffles recipe, and I have some additional ingredient notes below.
Dairy-Free Chocolate
You can use dark, semi-sweet, or even dairy-free “milk chocolate.” Just keep in mind that all added sugar in this recipe comes from the chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the more rich and less sweet the truffles will be. The milkier the chocolate, the sweeter and creamier they will be. You can grate or chop dairy-free chocolate bars, or simply use dairy-free chocolate chips. 12 ounces of chocolate is equivalent to about 2 cup of chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
Coconut Milk
This is full-fat canned coconut milk, not the drinkable kind sold in large cartons. You can use coconut cream for an even richer finish. If preferred, you can use a dairy-free heavy cream alternative (like Califia Farms or Silk) instead. If you use a milk beverage, the truffles might not set up enough.
Nut or Seed Butter Substitute
You can use 1/2 cup coconut cream in place of both the coconut milk and the nut or seed butter, if preferred. Let the can settle in the refrigerator (preferably a day ahead) and scoop the semi-solid cream from the top. If it’s a good quality can of coconut milk or coconut cream, you should have plenty of thick coconut cream to use.
Cocoa Powder
I personally like to use Dutch-processed cocoa powder for dusting truffles. It’s less bitter and richer in taste than natural cocoa powder. If you only have natural cocoa powder and find it a bit too bitter, you can whisk a little powdered sugar in with the cocoa powder. Or you can use another coating, like crushed coconut flakes, peanuts, or tree nuts.
Truffle Add Ins
The simple ingredients in these dairy-free banana chocolate truffles pair well with may flavors. You can add a little vanilla extract, some ground cinnamon, or other spices, like ginger or pumpkin pie spice. Alternatively, you can crush or chop some freeze dried fruit, like raspberries or strawberries, and add them to the truffle mixture. Stir any add-ins into the chocolate banana mixture just after you remove it from the stove.
